Pretty Fly Society came back to Houston for another amazing experience of creativity.

God gives us gifts, not just for the healing of others but for the healing of ourselves.

Sunday night I had the pleasure of hearing a local Artist, Tokie Renet, tell her story and it reminded me of the power of our gifts.

“At 14 years old, I was raped by four boys from my school. I became lost,” said Tokie.

I blamed myself for10 years. I didn’t show my art. I didn’t show my face.

The Art, Vibes, and Fashion show I attended Sunday night was Tokie Renet’ first art show ever. And I am quite sure this is the beginning to a long journey of expression, enduring self-love, and success.

Ostracized by her community of Cypress, Texas after being raped by four boys, Tokie Renet became lost and obsessed with death which she transcends in her art. She attempted suicide multiple times.

Tokie said, “Purely from being afraid to show my face…I would seclude myself and create…” She then turns and points to her wall of art and said, “This is all from my heart…my healing…my soul.”

Simply, our gifts are not only to be admired and inspire others but to provide a source of healing for ourselves.

God’s gifts are just that. A gift. What a beautiful opportunity to be fully present in your purpose. To be so alive and in the same moment moving out of darkness and into the joy of light.

What’s NEXT for Tokie Renet?

Soon to release an album on Spotify and although this was her first art show, this will not be her first go with music. Tokie Renet was featured on platinum-selling recording artist Baby Bash’ album Bash Town. She will also be showcasing new pieces at The Chocolate and Art Show:

How are you going to know if I’m still creeped up in my room? Whatever you want to do in life, just do it. Life is short. Live life.
