“No reason to have a plan B, because it distracts from plan A.”

“No reason to have a plan B, because it distracts from plan A.”  This is a quote by Will Smith. Most of us have a plan B. I went to college thinking I was working on my just in case resume. But I left college grateful that I could use what I’ve learned to accomplish my plan A. I think education is essential but education is not just what a college campus can give; it can be so many experiences of learning. Education comes in so many forms and you should never cripple yourself by thinking it’s the one thing you didn’t get. We all have the opportunity to attain an education; every day. Napoleon Hill said, “Education comes from within; you get it by struggle and effort and thought.” You can acquire it by your own experiences and by others including your conversations with people and reading what others have written. You can gain an education in so many ways. So don’t think of it as just one way. Your experiences and the people you meet mean so much. Take what’s positive from it.

I went to college and learned a lot by listening to others, reading what others have written, and my own experiences with everything-all things we can do every day. And people always ask me, “Am I going to get a master’s degree?” And I’m thinking, it would look so perfect on my plan B resume but my focus is plan A. And I have all the tools to achieve it. As I mature and gain more experiences I may desire to do that but at this point in my life— it’s not a part of plan A.

If you want to go back to school for a specific career possibility or accomplish any goal, remember: “It’s never too late to begin.” This is a quote that I will never forget. It sank directly into my heart when I first heard it from Dr. Roslyn Vaughn at my fifth grade graduation. She was our principal and I was ten years old. Her words are a part of my experience and I have and will accomplish great things inspired by her words. And I had a fifth grade education then. So don’t ever be discouraged to do whatever you desire to do. You CAN do it.

Don’t Give Up. If you want to accomplish something and you truly are passionate about the goal: don’t ever give up. Napoleon Hill reminded us that, “Edison failed 10,000 times before he made the electric light. Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.” Refuse to fail and things will begin to unfold. Believe your goal will happen and act on it immediately.

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

  1. Very well said. As an up and coming businessman myself, I have to remind myself of this same thing. We’re always being told to have a Plan B in case Plan A doesn’t work out. But I’m inclined to think that Plan A usually don’t work out because we spend time engaging in side lines. Andrew Carnegie said, “Put all of your eggs in one basket.” Which means: Focus on one thing. Focusing on multiple goals results in the dissipation of energy.

I saw you make several references to Napoleon Hill. I’m guessing you’ve read Think & Grow Rich. I have an even better recommendation for you. I’ll fill you in on it when we both have time to discuss it. I requested you on Facebook, so contact me on there.

  2. Thank You L.D. I like the quote from Andrew Carnegie. That quote speaks volumes. Thanks for the input and I look forward to getting that recommendation. Talk to you soon.
